Cruise Control

I’m incredibly miserable right now, but I don’t feel like talking about it. But suffice it to say I need to make a significant life change. But I’m not really seeing those options right now. So there’s always the next best thing.

The good news is I have a couple of things lined up. Whitewater rafting in the summer. That’s only for a weekend though. But I’m signing up for a Cruise to Mexico! YAY! But it’s the bottom of the barrel ship, which I’ve been on before. BOO. But hey, it’s cheap and it’s a cruise! YAY! But it isn’t until November. BOO. And I am trying to get my family to go with me to Walt Disney World just before the Christmas holidays. YAY! But I doubt my Mom will go. AWWWW… But you never know! YAY!

I shouldn’t be spending money on any of this stuff, but I need it. The fact is I am barely treading water lately, and the release will do me good. I have a lot of preparations to do for both. Aside from cutting expenses, I need to lose some frakking weight. I recently rang in at 270. I’m feeling it too; random body aches, and my back hurts. I always considered myself fat regardless of what my weight was (and I’ve always been big), but I had no idea what real obesity is like. How the fuck do some people live like this? I can understand why it’s so hard to lose weight for them. I barely want to get up in the morning and I am a very active person. It’s not helping with my depression either. I need to get this bitch (tits) under control. The Rafting, Cruise, and WDW all require constant physical activity, and I don’t want to be dragging ass or have to miss out because I can’t take it.

So anyway, I have a lot of options when it comes to Shore Excursions on the cruise.

The first stop is Progreso, Yucutan.

Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins

I really want to visit some Mayan Ruins.  I’ve heard of Chichen Itza.  It’s famous, and it looks awesome.  Look at that temple!   Unfortunately, its a 7 hour excursion, and I wouldn’t want to risk missing the boat.

Dzibilchaltun Ruins + Beach Break

These ruins look far less impressive.   It’s a little pathetic by comparison.  But I actually have time for this one.

Uxmal Mayan Ruins

These are a little more impressive, but still… something’s missing.

Horseback & Beach Break

I sort of want to ride a horse.  Just to try something different.  It looks kinda cool.

ATV Adventure at Rancho Grande®

The ATVs would be fun but I don’t know about the landscape.

Progreso Resort Beach Break

This looks cool, but I’d be doing the same thing I did on the ship.  Laying about.

The next stop is Cozumel. I’ve been to Cozumel before. It’s nice enough, but you could almost smell the commercialism. I was far more impressed with Costa Maya, which was only recently added as a vacation option. I’m hoping to get a similar experience in Progreso. Last time, my brother and I took the Cozumel Dune Buggy excursion, which was fun, but nearly disastrous… and almost fatal at one point. I’d like to try something new this time.

ATV & Beach Adventure

Same thing as the other one, but there’s a beach.

Mayan Ruins of Tulum

Now these look more like it!

Parasailing in Paradise

The big drawback on this one is it only lasts an hour. Plus I’m afraid of heights. But when would I ever do this again?

Powerboat & Beach Escape

One of my favorite things at Disney is the Mouseboats; personal speedboats they rent out. It would be pretty awesome to do it in the crystal clear Mexican waters.

This is actually supposed to be a superfast group seating speed boat that takes you to Isla Passion… sound awesome.

Xcaret Eco-Archaeological Park

Xcaret is like a there park made out of natural wonders. You can ride the river into underground caverns and to all kinds of cool shit. But is it worth skipping out on other activities?

So those are my options.  Any opinions??

  1. I’m taking the same cruise in December with 4 of my girlfriends! The boat will be fully upgraded by the time you go so it will be *slightly* different than the last time.

We planning on going to Mérida (the White City) while docked in Progreso it’s supposed to be a little less commercial and while in Cozumel we plan on going on an excursion that takes you out on a catamaran, you can go snorkeling, they have sea kayaks and drinks!

  2. yeah, you’re talking about the booze cruise. I’m from the drunkest city on the planet, so it never much interested me. Though I would probably go if I knew enough people going on one.

I want to use the excursions to do things I’ve never done before. New experiences and adventure are what I live for.

Thanks for the info. I’m glad the ship will be updated. It was a bit of a let down at first sight. I mean, I’m used to Disney extravagance. Most everything else gets left in the dust. But overall I had a blaaaaaaast!

Hi! My husband and I are going on the Fantasy cruise on 12/22. We’re trying to figure out which excursions to do as well. The ruins are guided, I think so you won’t miss the boat. Now, I’m just wondering about the weather.
